#metoo

Hey there, Josh here back at you with another blog post. So...

What's the #metoo movement?

Sexual assault and harassment is nothing to be laughing about. I'm not even going to try to add any quips to this one. #metoo movement is probably going to be a significant turning point in modern human history. After all the readings and lessons on how women weren't treated fairly centuries back, this shows we can change that.

#metoo was created by Tarana Burke back in 2006 but spread virally by Alyssa Milano in 2017 around the time sexual assault allegations of Harvey Weinstein began surfacing. This simple hashtag works to empower women who may feel vulnerable and is recently used to reveal the big problem of sexual assault and harassment in the workplace. Many notable actresses used this movement to speak against Harvey Weinstein like Lupita Nyong'o, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Angelina Jolie just to name a few of the dozens of people speaking out against Harvey.

The importance of this movement starts with these actresses. To know some very strong women were able to feel vulnerable to this man shocking. But this has only resulted in them becoming stronger to stand up against the man they were victimised by. This act is like a line of dominos. One by one more women will come out with their stories inspiring others to do the same. It will then become a world where fear can no longer control anyone. This is definitely worthy of attention which is what such an important movement needs.
