What's Up With This Dove Ad?

I'm going to start this blogpost with something completely irrelevant to the topic at hand so go ahead and skip a paragraph if you want. Anyways, I feel it is needed for me to have some sort of introduction because to be honest with anyone reading this I suck at introductions. So because I'm lazy and unoriginal let's just go with something cringe like, "Hey there, Josh here back at you with another blogpost." Yeah that sounds good let's growth that. Moving on to the main topic of this post, so...
...What's Up With This Dove Ad?

Dove, a very big company in the personal care industry, had recently unveiled an ad to promote some new body wash line they worked on. In this ad we see a woman of colour wearing a t-shirt that matches her skin tone only for her to take it off to reveal a white woman wearing a t-shirt that matches her skin tone. A lot of controversy has sparked over this ad with many people calling this ad racist.

Many people are debating over whether this ad is truly racist or not but what the question they should be asking is, who cares? I know for one thing, I don't care and neither does the model who people are victimizing in this ad. Lola Ogunyemi, the, "victim" of this advertisement publicly said that she was very excited to be in this ad and was confused why people were raging over it. In my opinion, this ad is only controversial if you want it to be. Dove had no intentions of making anything racist neither did the actors, the production crew nor the editors. This ad doesn't even look like it is racist from the outside. Like guess what the white actor does? SHE LIFTS UP HER SHIRT TO REVEAL ANOTHER WOMAN OF COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SKIN TONE AND ETHNICITY.  Okay, okay I guess the first one has some more historical impact but for real you really think this ad went through the many people it did and someone said, "I really like how racist this ad is." No of course not, they were paid to create an ad showing how their products work with people of all colour. So if you want to call this ad racist go ahead you are entitled to your opinion but find someone else call your victim because Lola Ogunyemi won't

  2. Why does the paragraph colour change in the middle of the paragraph
    anyway,

    Hi Josh!

Your intro is very funny and your blog post is very unique and your thoughts is something I haven't heard from anyone else yet.

Your opinion on this topic is very questionable. You said that "this ad is debatable whether it's truly racist or not" which is true but then you said "but the question they should really be asking is, who cares?". When people were debating this topic , I'm pretty sure they had already asked themselves that. Because I know I would. And the answer to that for most people would be "yes i care" which is why they're debating over it. And Yes, Lolo Ogunyemi, the victim, does not deserve to be ashamed by this because she was paid to do it. But then again, she said that she was excited to be in this ad or as some people say, "racist ad".

  3. Joshua Cadavos, your opinion on this... I don't have anything to say. Life is full of mistakes, I've made the mistake of not going to another school, not e classing English, and the mistake of not finishing this comment faster. However all mistakes can be forgiven. You said that Lola was okay with what she said and didn't know what all the commotion was about. All those people who said this was racist, sure they're right. That's all I have to say about this. Oh, and one more thing, you're bad at showdown.

  4. Very nice introduction.

Although the advertisement is questionable, I think your stance on the situation is interesting. I do agree with the fact that people were overreacting to the ad. I also found it interesting that Lola Ogunyemi did not find the ad racist at all. I think it says a lot about social media as the actor themselves did not care or find it racist. Social media has a tendency to overreact to a lot of things. Despite this, I do think the ad was controversial and probably was not a good idea. Surely someone who was involved in the advertisements creation process would've said something about possible controversy.
